The Mourning Son CD Review in The Big Takeover

23

the mourning son ep
            (Xu Xu Fang)
Seven tracks translate into three instrumental soundscapes, three full-on songs, and an almost 14-minute atmosphere building sonic thundercloud that could crash against your dreams like some dark oceanic noise machine! That said, taking this as a three-song EP, I adore this band. Moving from heavy mellow shoegazer moments to dream-inducing sonic rhythms, intertwining vocals with dusky sunset smoothness, these fangs bite so sweet. Hitting elements of Velvet Underground, B.R.M.C, Dandy Warhols, and more, these songs capture and entice listeners into a dark but safe place to sway and dream and live—night stained rock ‘n’ roll for the hipster vampire looking for a red velvet lounge.  -Marcel Feldmar
